Never A Straight Answer

According to many, the number of the beast is six hundred sixty-six or χξϛ (in Greek numerals, χ represents 600, ξ represents 60 and ϛ represents 6).

Some say the number of the beast is 616; In the Papyrus 115 (which is the oldest preserved manuscript of the Revelation as of 2017), as well as other ancient sources like Codex Ephraemi Rescriptus, give the number of the beast as χιϛ or χιϲ, transliterable in Arabic numerals as 616 (χιϛ), not 666; critical editions of the Greek text, such as the Novum Testamentum Graece, note χιϛ/616 as a variant.

Note: Some of these 666's in this article are "rounded" and/or average numbers, some of these might even be a stretch of the imagination, however - here they are. Baalers hate it when Flerfs bring up all the evil "Coincidences" in the religion of Scientism, for some reason it makes them hiss like a serpent at you.

Biblical references

In some translations, 666 is the number of a man. In others, it's simply a human number — as opposed to, say, a demon number. And in still others, it "stands for the name of someone," explicitly. But either way, 666 has culturally become synonymous with the mark of the Antichrist.

Surprisingly, this isn't supported by any actual biblical scripture. While the number 666 appears in the Book of Revelation, the Antichrist does not. Per the Catholic Standard, the Antichrist is never mentioned in the Book of Revelation, appearing instead in the Epistles of St. John. And when mentioned in the Epistles, it is noted that there are many Antichrists and that they already walk among us — in this context, it appears that "Antichrist" is being used as a word for heretics or deniers of Christ.

So, how did the Antichrist even come to exist, let alone be connected with the Number of the Beast? In the year 180, Iranaeus published Against Heresies — which combined the concept of an individual Antichrist with the number 666. From then on, the idea of an individual Antichrist who might someday come became a popular interpretation, even though a specific Antichrist is never mentioned in the New Testament texts. Eventually, it was simply accepted as biblical canon.

But in reality, there's no evidence that 666 (or the man referred to by the Number of the Beast) has anything to do with the Antichrist. So why are there so many wildly different interpretations? It has to do with the way the Book of Revelation was written, which is unique to the New Testament.

There are New Testament scriptures dating back to circa 60 AD, but they're all in fragments. While it's believed that copies of the Bible date back to the time of Jesus, there aren't any full copies until well after. Many copies had to be cobbled together — some were written from memory, and some were incorrectly transcribed.

The Book of Revelation is the last book of the Bible, and it is believed to have been written around 95 AD, per PBS. It's notoriously difficult to decode because it relies heavily upon symbolism — in contrast to the other books. A simple example comes from the name of the book. While it's known as the "Apocalypse of John," this is likely to be another confusing mistranslation: In Greek, the word for "apocalypse" could denote a disclosure.

Some believe that the Book of Revelation doesn't even describe a future apocalypse but rather an "apocalypse" that the writer had already personally experienced – the sacking and destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. And others point out that the Book of Revelation wasn't a singular artifact. There were many such books and apocrypha, but the Book of Revelation was chosen for inclusion into the biblical canon centuries after the books had been written.

Other possible origins of Antichrist are written in the Bible as the "man of sin" or "man of lawlessness", "man of rebellion", "man of insurrection", or "man of apostasy"; a figure in the Second Epistle to the Thessalonians.

7) For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. 8) And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.

Islam

Islamic writings, which originated centuries after the original scriptures, also contain the Mark of the Beast – but this time it's K-F-R. This represents the "deceiver" and is more clearly an Antichrist figure. As detailed by Britannica, al-Dajjal is a false messiah who will come to Earth before the apocalypse, only to be stopped by either Christ or the mahdī. K-F-R is written across his head: "unbelief." And there's even a description of him: a chubby, curly-haired man with a red face. Well, it's not a particularly foreboding description, but it's a description nonetheless.

Jehovah's Witnesses

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the Mark of the Beast does not indicate a single man but rather those who have become controlled by the government. This ties into the Jehovah's Witnesses' belief that those who are indoctrinated by the government are being led away from God.

To understand this, one must first look at the beginning of the relevant passages. So far, we've been talking about Revelation 13:18. But that's devoid of context. Now, let's take a look at Revelation 13:1: "Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name."

Alright, well, that's not really that helpful to anyone — that's just weird. (Remember how we mentioned deep symbolism? There's also a part of Revelation that's about a dead lamb screaming and creatures that are chock full of eyes.) But under the interpretation of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Revelation 13:18 is a continuation of 13:1 — and the Number of the Beast refers to this beast. Witnesses believe that this beast refers to political systems, which can take control over people in place of God.

In recent years, some have argued that Bill Gates bears the Number of the Beast, Microsoft holds patent WO02020060606A1 (which includes the segments: 060606), a patent for microchips that can be embedded into people to track them!

The I.H.S. solar logo is said to be a monogram for “Jesus Savior of men”, but within the Eleusinian mysteries, I.H.S. symbolized the ancient Greek god Dionysus, later called Bacchus. On the emblem are three nails which are the Hebrew letter Vav. In Hebrew Gematria, Vav equals the number 6 and literally means "nail". Three of them make 666. The 32 rays (33 including "IHS" Christos) stand for the risen Kundalini Serpent energy up the 33 vertebrae to the place of the skull where the Pineal Gland is. All of these symbols are depicted on the Black Sun, which also alludes to the Corona (Crown) of the Solar Eclipse, the result of the union of the Sun and Moon as Osiris and Isis. Even more, the nail is a codename for Satan, because it caused Yahu’sha so much pain during his crucifixion. The nail is linked to the Hebrew letter Vav or Vau, and has a value of 6. Of course, three of them make 666, the number of the Antichrist. Much like the nails, the cross is also associated with the suffering of Our Messiah. Ultimately, the I.H.S. seal glorifies the death of “Jesus”, while giving honor to the Antichrist.
If you translate the Hebrew spelling of 666, you actually spell out Neron Kesar - the Hebrew spelling of Nero Caesar. Even if you take the alternative spelling of the number of the beast, which has been found in several early Biblical texts as being written 616, you can translate that out as being Nero Cesar. The Sibylline Oracles, Book 5 and 8, written in the second century, speak of Nero returning and bringing destruction. Within Christian communities, these writings, along with others, fueled the belief that Nero would return as the Antichrist. In 310, Lactantius wrote that Nero "suddenly disappeared, and even the burial place of that noxious wild beast was nowhere to be seen. This has led some persons of extravagant imagination to suppose that, having been conveyed to a distant region, he is still reserved alive; and to him they apply the Sibylline verses." Lactantius maintains that it is not right to believe this. In 422, Augustine of Hippo wrote about 2 Thessalonians 2:1–11, where he believed that Paul mentioned the coming of the Antichrist. Although he rejects the theory, Augustine mentions that many Christians believed Nero was the Antichrist or would return as the Antichrist. He wrote that, "in saying, 'For the mystery of iniquity doth already work' - he alluded to Nero, whose deeds already seemed to be as the deeds of Antichrist."

Maybe you heard he devised the wheel while trying to create a perpetual motion machine. Some historians contend that the origins of Roulette pre-date Pascal’s “little wheel” by at least 200 years. Some versions even go so far as to say the specific monk who developed the game went mad trying to find a way to cheat the game and mysteriously included a “666” inscription at the center of the wheel. Rumor was that Blanc had made a deal with the devil to learn the secrets of Roulette, explaining why the numbers added to 666. For instance, adding any three numbers that appear horizontally together on the Roulette table can be related to the number six. The numbers 28, 29, and 30 appear horizontally toward the end of the table. The total for those three particular numbers added together is 87. Add those digits together (8+7) and you get 15, and if you add the digits once more (1+5) you get the dreaded six! Adding any 3 numbers that appear diagonally on the table will combine to get the number six in much the same way. Looking back at the table 12, 14 and 16 appear diagonally. 12+14+16 = 42. Add the 4 and the 2 of 42 together and you’ll never guess what number you’ll get!
